Once patients complete their treatment goals for the IOP program, they can be evaluated to transfer to the general outpatient program (GOP), which still provides individual services and group therapy, but for fewer days per week.
When people are in need of a structured setting in which to work toward overcoming symptoms of substance use issues, they may benefit from participating in an intensive outpatient program (IOP).
Many people suffering from a substance use disorder can’t afford to stay away from work or school for extended periods of time in order to receive addiction treatment in a residential setting. If appropriate, intensive outpatient services give those patients the flexibility to maintain their professional or academic schedules to a large degree while in treatment.
Our IOP is offered 3, 4, or 5 days a week. Services are provided during the day as well as in the evening. Our team works with each patient to ensure that the schedule of treatment services is offered that works with each person’s personal and professional schedule.
Encore’s Intensive Outpatient Program gives patients more flexibility to maintain their household responsibilities while stabilizing their recovery. Patients may have children that require their supervision and care.
An IOP also gives patients the opportunity to practice the strategies they learn in treatment right away. Putting their newly acquired coping skills into practice outside of the therapy environment helps them strengthen these techniques and incorporate them into their daily life.

Encore’s Intensive Outpatient Program bundles a variety of outpatient treatment services and provides structured programming while maintaining the ability to customize care. These programs meet the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s (ASAM) level 2.1 criteria for IOP services.
Facility
The Encore intensive outpatient facility is conveniently located in Arlington, Virginia which is a short distance from public transportation, including the Ballston Metro. Encore patients from the greater Washington, DC, area can easily access treatment and effort is made to schedule group and private treatment sessions around work and school obligations. Encore’s addiction treatment facility is a positive and private environment in which to meet with members of the treatment team and receive personalized individual and group therapy.
